Wethersfield, Connecticut

Historic Wethersfield has a lot of historic charm on Main Street from historic homes to businesses housed in historic buildings. There are also multiple historic house museums on this strip. While you can see a lot of colonial architecture on Main Street, be sure to also explore the side streets for more historic charm. Chester, Connecticut

This town has a charming downtown area with art galleries, unique shops, restaurants. My favorite spot to visit in downtown is Honeycone Craft Ice Cream. After you’re done exploring the downtown, you can explore some of the parks in town or take the Chester-Hadlyme Ferry across the Connecticut River to check out Gillette Castle State Park.

Kent, Connecticut

Kent is one of my favorite towns to visit in the northwestern part of the state. The town is surrounded by beautiful hiking spots, including picturesque views along the Appalachian Trail. Kent Falls State Park features the state’s largest waterfall. Be sure to also check out Main Street as well.

West Cornwall

West Cornwall was developed in the early 18th century as part of the larger town of Cornwall. The village grew around the Housatonic River, where water-powered mills and ironworks supported the local economy in the 1800s. Today, West Cornwall is best known for its iconic covered bridge, built in the 1860s, which remains a symbol of the town’s historic New England character.

Litchfield, Connecticut

Litchfield is a historic town nestled in northwestern Connecticut. In Litchfield, you’ll find beautifully preserved historic homes that were constructed in the 1700s and 1800s. There are also plenty of restaurants and shops to explore in the historic center of town. You can even stay in some historic inns or check out the Tapping Revere Law School House to dive further into the town’s history.

East Haddam, Connecticut

East Haddam offers a blend of natural beauty and small-town charm with the Connecticut River winding gracefully alongside historic sites. The iconic Goodspeed Opera House stands as a highlight, offering both stunning architecture and world-class theater. Nearby, Devil’s Hopyard State Park provides scenic trails, waterfalls, and quiet spots perfect for exploring or relaxing in nature. Be sure to also check out Gillette Castle State Park!

Thompson, Connecticut

Thompson, Connecticut is a quiet rural town known for its wide open spaces, historic charm, and classic New England character. Visitors often enjoy the Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, one of the oldest paved race tracks in the country.
