Best Donuts in Connecticut
There’s nothing better than a good donut. In Connecticut, there are no shortages of delicious donuts. From classic bakers to trendy new spots, below are the shops where you can find the best donuts in Connecticut.
Deviant Donuts
This doughnut shop sells small batch gourmet donuts in Mystic at the Olde Mistic Village. In the last couple of years, this doughnut shop has become very popular. This doughnut shop started out in The Vault, which was a coffee shop.
Their delicious gourmet doughnuts became so popular, they ended up becoming their own shop and they moved to a bigger building in the village.
During the transition, they added online ordering, and I am a regular who pre-orders pretty much every week. It’s convenient because they have a pick-up window outside!
Themed donuts
The thing that’s so special about this doughnut shop is they do themed doughnuts every week. To give you an idea, some that I can think of off the top of my head are Star Wars, Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter, dinosaurs, and pirates just to name a few.
Every Monday, they will announce the theme and post the full menu to their social media. It is basically a part of my Monday routine at this point.
When the popular menus are being done, it is ESSENTIAL that you order ahead. It’s the best way to ensure you get the doughnut you want, especially if you’re driving a far distance to get them.
Their doughnuts are so popular, they sell out pretty quickly, especially when it’s something like Harry Potter. The last time they did Harry Potter the line was INSANE and there were people even dressed up to get their doughnuts!
Special diet options
One of my favorite things about Deviant Donuts is that they offer gluten-sensitive and vegan options.
I was gluten-free for five years and let me tell you, these were the best gluten-free donuts. They didn’t even taste gluten-free! But, just note that they only offer one of each of these special doughnuts each week.
Donut Crazy
This donut shop is known for its creative and unique flavors. There are currently six locations in Connecticut. You can get some of these delicious donuts in Stratford, New Haven, Westport, Shelton, Branford, and West Hartford.
As I mentioned, Donut Crazy is known for its unique flavors. Some of the flavors you can find here are Kookie Monster, Cannoli, Nutella, Red Velvet, Banana Cream Pie, Cereal, and Maple Bacon.
But, you can also get the classics here as well. If you’re not into the crazy flavors, you can get glazed chocolate, powdered, vanilla frosted, raised cinnamon, plain, and glazed.
\Whether you’re looking for unique flavors or a good old classic, Donut Crazy is a great place to get donuts in Connecticut!
Neil’s Donuts
This shop is known for its large variety of New York Style Donuts. They currently have two locations. One is in Wallingford and the other is in Middletown.
I typically go to the one in Middletown because it’s closer to where I live, but both locations have great donuts!
The doughnuts here are made fresh daily and the filled donuts are filled by hand. They have a variety of flavors to choose from.
The best part is, you can mix and match a dozen donuts and they’re all priced the same! That way, you can get a taste of all of their great flavors.
From classics to unique flavors, this donut shop has it all. They have both a regular and mint Oreo donut, a Reese’s Peanut Butter Crumb Donut, a french toast donut, a maple frosted donut, and a Shamrock cream donut.
It’s tough to choose, but you can’t go wrong no matter what flavor you go for. They’re all quite delicious!
Another thing to note is Neil’s Donuts does offer vegan options! You can check their menu online to see which donuts are vegan, or you can ask in-store!
Young Buns Doughnuts
Young Buns Doughnuts is a family doughnut shop in downtown Mystic. This donut shop was opened by the same people who run and operate Sift Bake Shop.
For those of you that don’t know, the owner Adam Young has been on several Food Network shows, some of which he has won. He has even been a judge on Chopped Sweets! Because of his popularity, people travel from all over to taste his pastries.
While Young Buns is one of his newer ventures, the doughnuts are absolutely delicious. While the flavors aren’t unique or out of the ordinary, they are high quality and they definitely satisfy the taste buds.
If you’re looking for delicious classic flavors, I would definitely recommend taking a trip to Young Buns Doughnuts! Personally, I am pretty simple and I prefer the classic flavors!
It’s also worth noting that they do have a gluten-free option! They offer a gluten free cinnamon sugar doughnut that is absolutely delicious! As someone who was gluten-free for five years, this is something I can appreciate!
Dixie Donuts
This small donut shop in Norwich has been a local favorite for years. I have so many memories of going to Dixie Donuts with my grandparents.
These donuts are so loved, it’s not uncommon for them to run out of donuts before their closing time.
In terms of flavors, you can expect to find the classics like chocolate cake, sprinkled donuts, glazed, and so on. These delicious donuts are made fresh daily.
They also have special flavors that they rotate! Some specials they’ve had in the past include maple bacon, cherry cake, and an apple cider donut!
Flanders Donut & Bake Shop
Flanders Donut in East Lyme is another popular doughnut shop to get some of the best donuts in Connecticut.
As someone who went to East Lyme High School, I have eaten quite a few of these donuts in my life. In fact, my advisory teacher used to bring them during our advisory meetings.
Their specialty is light, fluffy yeast donuts, but they also have old-fashioned cake donuts and filled donuts available.
They have a wide variety of flavors to choose from, from the classics to some more unique flavors. Some of the more unique flavors are Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, maple bacon, lemon glazed, and key lime pie.
My personal favorite doughnut to get here is the candy shot doughnut with rainbow sprinkles. As I said before, I very much prefer the classics because you can’t go wrong with them.
This small donut shop is a local favorite in East Lyme. If you’re going to make the trip here, make sure you have cash on you as it is a cash-only business.
Doughnut Inn
Another popular place to get donuts in Connecticut is the Doughnut Inn in Stratford. This small local donut shop is known for it’s fresh doughnuts.
This doughnut shop is known for being a place to get a good old fashioned doughnut. Their cake doughnuts are deliciously dense and their yeast doughnuts are light and fluffy.
If you’re looking for just a delicious, classic donut, the Doughnut Inn is for you!
Krispy Kreme
While this is a chain doughnut shop, it’s definitely worth noting. Krispy Kreme is known for their iconic Original Glazed Doughnut, which is made fresh every day.
This shop also has a wide variety of flavors. If you’re looking to get some Krispy Kreme doughnuts, you’re going to have to go to Mohegan Sun in Uncasville.
There are various Krispy Kreme doughnut shops scattered throughout the casino, including one located within their gas station. However, the best one to go to is the “main” Krispy Kreme located by the summer entrance.
If the big Krispy Kreme sign is glowing red, you’re in luck. That means they’re making fresh doughnuts!
The coolest part about this Krispy Kreme is you can watch the doughnuts being made through the glass. We used to go weekly in the summers and as a kid, this was my favorite part. That, and the cool paper hats.
My favorite doughnuts here are the glazed chocolate cake. But the chocolate iced with sprinkles is a close second.
One of the things I love about Krispy Kreme is they glaze their frosted donuts, which isn’t that common. The addition of glaze makes them so delicious.
Dunkin’ Donuts
While this chain may not have the most inventive flavors, it is known for its consistency and affordability.
I’ve lived in Connecticut my entire life, and it’s not hard to find a Dunkin Donuts. In fact, there’s even one in the small town that I grew up in. Dunkin is VERY popular here in New England.
I used to get myself Dunkin Donuts everyday on my way into school when I was in high school. My favorite donut there is the vanilla frosted.
I also love getting the assorted munchkins. They’re a great think to grab on the go!
