Southeastern Connecticut has a lot to offer when it comes to pizza, from long-standing local favorites to newer spots making a name for themselves. Whether you’re looking for a quick slice or a full pie, there are plenty of places worth checking out. If you’re in the area and craving a great pizza, these are the places to try.

Mystic Pizza is a must-visit pizza place in Connecticut. Not only is the pizza delicious, but it’s also iconic. This pizza restaurant gained national attention in 1988, when it was featured in the hit movie Mystic Pizza starring Julia Roberts.

Shunock River Brewery and Wood Fired Pizza

Shunnock River Brewery is one of my favorite places to get pizza. I love thin, wood-fired pizza and this brewery sure can make a good pizza. My personal favorite is the Soupy Crumble pizza. But, you really can’t go wrong with any of the pizzas here.

Nana’s Mystic

Nana’s Mystic is a casual restaurant offering a variety of dishes, including breakfast and lunch options. It’s known for its sourdough pizza, local ingredients and simple, hearty meals. There’s indoor seating as well as waterside outdoor seating. This restaurant also has its own parking lot, which is always a bonus.

Vincitori Apizza

There are a handful of pizza places in Niantic, but Vincitori Apizza is my personal favorite out of all of the options. Barstool’s Dave Portnoy reviewed this pizza spot in May of 2024 and he also agrees that this spot has really good pizza.

Mango’s Wood Fired Pizza Co.

Mango’s Wood-Fired Pizza is one of the many restaurants in Olde Mistick Village. A massive wood burning oven is the center of an open kitchen which is the heart of their fresh baked bread for all of their sandwiches, and pizza dough, made from scratch using old world tradition and simple ingredients. They’ve got your classic flavors, but they also have a lot of fun flavors on the menu!

Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana (Mohegan Sun Location)

The Frank Pepe’s at Mohegan Sun is another great option for grabbing pizza. The original Pepe’s Pizza was founded in 1925 by Frank Pepe in New Haven. It’s known for originating the New Haven-style thin-crust pizza, which is baked in coal-fired brick ovens.

The Plum Tomato

Growing up in Salem, Connecticut, I ate a lot of this pizza. My favorite thing about going to Plum Tomato is that you can just grab a slice or two on the go! I used to always grab a couple slices and then go sit by the lake at Gardner Lake State Park. There are three locations: Salem, East Lyme, and Colchester. If you’re looking to dine-in, definitely go to East Lyme or Colchester.

If you’re wondering, yes, that is a macaroni and cheese pizza in the picture (as much as I love the classics, I also really like to try unique pizzas). This pizza place in Gales Ferry has a variety of pizzas. The pizza here is wood fired in a brick oven.

Sapore Pizzeria

This spot in Old Lyme was also reviewed by Dave Portnoy. And just like Vincitori Apizza, it was highly rated. This is a great place to get some authentic Italian pizza!
