Getting There

Getting to Bingham Falls in Vermont is an adventure in itself! Located in Smugglers’ Notch State Park, the falls are a hidden gem tucked away in the woods. It’s easiest to access by car, and the scenic drive is part of the experience.

As you drive along winding roads, you’ll pass lush forests, mountain peaks, and even wildlife. Eventually you’ll reach the beautiful Smugglers’ Notch State Park! The parking area is a small dirt pull-off on Vermont State Route 108. The parking lot provides easy access to the start of the trailhead.

The Hike to Bingham Falls

From the parking area, it’s just a short hike down a trail to reach the falls. The path is steep but easy to navigate. Along the way, there are various cascades to enjoy on the West Branch Little River. It makes for a beautiful hike!

The hike down to Bingham Falls itself is very steep and rocky. For this reason, it is important to wear proper hiking shoes. Another thing to keep in mind is it will be very slippery to hike down if you go after it rains. Speaking from experience, it was a little sketchy as all of the rocks were wet and slippery.

In addition to being steep and rocky, the path down is a bit narrow. As you make your way down, be mindful of hikers coming uphill. It’s not uncommon for there to be other hikers using the trails as this is one of the most popular waterfall hikes in Vermont.

With all of that being said, it is absolutely worth it to hike down to the falls. This waterfall is absolutely stunning and it makes for a great spot for photos. Even if you’re not into photography, it’s a nice spot to sit back, relax, and enjoy nature.

It’s not recommended to swim in the area above or below the falls. The pool below funnels into high speed water vortexes, which can be deadly. However, locals do use this spot as a swimming hole.
