If you’re looking for somewhere to pick your own tulips in Hartford County, look no further than Broad Brook Farms in Broad Brook, Connecticut. This small tulip farm is run by a young couple whose goal is to offer a welcoming space where visitors can enjoy the vibrant colors of the tulips and experience a piece of Dutch tradition. After my visit, I can definitely say that they have created a great place to pick tulips!

My Experience

This farm is definitely small, but honestly, that was one of the things I loved about it. I’ve been to Wicked Tulips (both their Connecticut and Rhode Island locations) many times over the years, and it always feels a bit like a zoo. At Broad Brook Blooms, it was so laid back. I didn’t have to buy a ticket ahead of time online or worry about needing to buy a ticket weeks in advance.

When I arrived, I was kindly greeted and told I could grab a basket and head out into the field. They had so many different basket styles to choose from, which I loved. I went with a shallow gathering basket because I just love how they look with freshly picked tulips.

I took my time walking around the field, taking photos as I went. Below are some of the photos I took during my visit.

When you finish picking your tulips, you’ll head to the little tulip shack to wrap your tulips and pay. They accept cash and Venmo. I don’t love carrying cash, so I loved that Venmo was an option! Then, you’ll return your basket.

Is This Farm Worth Visiting?

If you’re looking for a quiet day picking tulips, this spot is for you! They have some great spots for photos, benches to sit back and enjoy the blooms, cute baskets, and it’s really reasonably priced. The owner was so friendly, and I enjoyed chatting with her during my visit.

When you’re done, there’s plenty to do in the area. When I finished, I headed to Wickham Park, which is under 10 miles away from the tulip farm. There, you’ll find gardens, trails, and even great views of the city of Hartford!
