10 Things To Do In Northwestern Vermont

Nestled between the shores of Lake Champlain and the rolling hills, northwestern Vermont has a little something for everyone. Whether you’re exploring towns like Stowe and Burlington or taking in scenic views, this region has no shortage of things to do. Check out what this beautiful corner of the state has to offer!

Mount Philo State Park – Charlotte, VT

Mount Philo State Park is a must-visit if you’re going to Vermont. This 968 foot mountain offers stunning views of the Lake Champlain Valley and New York’s Adirondack Mountains. And, Mount Philo is the first Vermont State Park.

Moss Glen Falls – Stowe, VT

Moss Glen Falls is the tallest waterfall in Vermont at 85 feet tall. To get to the waterfall, you’ll need to take a short hike. The waterfall is only a quarter mile from the trailhead. Additionally, this waterfall is located only 5 minutes from Stowe’s historic Village.

Causeway Park – Colchester, VT

This is a trail on a causeway that takes you over Lake Champlain. It takes you from Colchester, Vermont to South Hero, Vermont which is on an island on the lake. However, it should be noted that if you’re looking to make to to South Hero, you’ll need to take the Local Motion Island Line Bike Ferry.

Bingham Falls – Stowe, VT

This is a beautiful waterfall located in Smugglers’ Notch State Park. It’s a short quarter mile hike to get to the waterfall. Plus, there are some great views and other cascades to see as you make your way to Bingham Falls.

Rock Point – Burlington, VT

Rock Point is a great spot to go for a hike in the Burlington area. The overlook offers stunning views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks in the distance. The trail is a 1.7 mile hike and there’s only 141 feet of elevation gain, making it fairly easy.

Shelburne Farms – Shelburne, VT

When I first visited this farm, I was so shocked by how much there was to see and do. There are so many different walking trails to explore, including some that take you to Lake Champlain where you can enjoy some picturesque views. You can also see various farm buildings, where they make cheese, and there’s even stay here at the Shelburne Farms Inn.

North Beach Park – Burlington, VT

This is Burlington’s largest beach and the only beach in the summer that has active lifeguards. This is a beautiful location for a beach day, offering beautiful views of the Adirondacks in the distance. There’s also a campground here as well as concession stands, a playground, and more!

Fisk Quarry Preserve – Isle La Motte, VT

Did you know you can see real fossils in Vermont? Fisk Quarry Preserve gives visitors a chance to see some of the oldest reefs in the world as well as some fossils. There is a very short interpretive walking trail you can walk while here.

Winooski River Walk – Winooski, VT

Located in downtown Winooski, this river walk is a nice walk along the Winooski River. You’ll be able to see Winooski Falls as well as an old mill site as you walk along the river. Be sure to enjoy what downtown has to offer after!

Waterfront Park is a large park located on the shoreline of Lake Champlain. This is a great spot to just kick back and relax. There are various green spaces in the park where you can put a blanket down to have a picnic or just hangout with friends. It’s also a great place to watch the sunset.
