Staying at the J House Greenwich in Connecticut

I was given a complimentary one-night stay and complimentary meals at Tony’s at the J House. All opinions expressed are my own.
Greenwich, Connecticut is a part of Connecticut that I truly had not experienced until this trip. It’s quite a drive from where I live in southeastern Connecticut, so when The J House Greenwich invited me to stay overnight, I was excited! While I could day trip to Greenwich, being able to stay overnight allowed me to experience the area in a way that didn’t feel rushed.

This hotel is contemporary. The rooms have a clean design with plenty of technology to make the stay feel luxurious. I think what I loved most is the awesome artwork everywhere. At times, it felt a bit like being at an art gallery, which is not a bad thing. The lounge off of the lobby was full of interesting metal sculptures that I absolutely loved.
My Stay
I checked into the hotel at 3pm after doing some exploring in Greenwich. It was a hot, summer day and I arrived ready to relax. We arrived by car, and our car was taken care of by the complimentary valet.
At check-in, I was offered a glass of Prosecco, which I thought was a nice touch for the welcome experience. It was a great start to our stay at the hotel!
After we checked in, a bellhop helped us bring our luggage to our room. While we were only staying for one night, I brought quite a bit of stuff with me just to have outfit options. I had heels for dinner and sandals for the pool that I couldn’t fit into the bag, so the help was definitely welcome. My brother brought clothes on hangers, and the bellhop hung them in the closet for him.
The Room
Since I brought my brother with me as a travel companion for this trip, we stayed in a double room. The room was modern and comfortable.
The room also featured a mirror television. I actually didn’t even realize it was a television at first! It added to that modern feel in the room by having a tv without the eyesore of a regular television.
The bathroom had a mirror with a small television built into it, which I thought was pretty cool! There was also an advanced Toto “Neorest” automatic toilet. It was definitely the fanciest toilet I’ve ever seen in a hotel room! It was comfortable, and the seat was heated.
The bathroom also featured a double-wide shower with a rainfall shower head. What I appreciated most about the shower was that I could turn the water on without getting soaked with cold water from the shower head. I have been to hotels where that was a reality in the bathroom. The shower handle was right by the opening to the shower and opposite to the actual shower head. For me, small details like this matter.
Speaking of small details, some other things I liked were they provided brand new slippers and the remotes for the TVs came in little pouches that indicated that they were cleaned. I’m a bit of a germaphobe, so I really appreciated both of these things. Usually, I’m wasting all of my socks to walk around in hotel rooms, so I loved having slippers provided!
Hanging Out At The Pool
After we checked out the room, we headed to the pool to cool off. The pool is located behind the building. There are plenty of signs pointing you to the pool, so we had no problem finding it!
When we arrived at the pool, the hotel pool attendant got us set up with towels and the poolside menu. The food comes from the on-site restaurant, Tony’s at The J House. My brother and I both ordered a watermelon margarita.
The pool itself was heated, which I loved. While it was heated, it wasn’t so hot that you didn’t want to get in it on a hot day. When we were there, it was 90 degrees Fahrenheit and the pool was still refreshing. It was heated just enough to make getting in comfortable instead of a cold shock.
The pool area had a lot of greenery and flowers, which made it feel more elevated than just a regular pool surrounded by a chain link fence. It’s truly a beautiful area to sit back and relax. The lounge chairs were comfortable with umbrellas for shade. There were also some outdoor couches available to sit at.
Dinner at Tony’s at The J House
After the pool, we headed back to the room to get ready for dinner at Tony’s at The J House. We were ready a little before our reservation, so we decided to check out the lounge that was between the lobby and the restaurant. It was decorated tastefully and it definitely had a great vibe.
After we checked out the lounge, we headed to the host stand at the restaurant. We got seated in the garden area of the restaurant, which was absolutely gorgeous.
We started our meal off with drinks and a bread. My brother got the Smoked Angel’s Envy Old Fashion, and I got the Raspberry Mojito mocktail. As someone who isn’t a big drinker, I was excited to see they have mocktails available!
For our entrées, we both got specials. I got a stuffed pasta with beef inside and my brother got the surf and turf. My brother got a glass of wine that was a red blend to go with his steak. Both meals were excellent.
For dessert, we got the espresso martini tree and the dessert sampler so we could taste a bit of everything. The dessert sampler was chef’s choice, so the actual items were a surprise. It was great to share and a good way to not have to choose between all of the great options on the menu.
For the espresso martini tree, we got salted caramel, cookies and cream, strawberry, and peanut butter. The martinis were on the sweeter side, but that fits the bill for a dessert drink! They were also smooth with no bite. Definitely fun to have at the table!
All in all, we absolutely enjoyed our meal from start to finish! The food was delicious and the service was excellent. It’s no wonder they’ve had celebrities dine in at the restaurant (you can see the list of celebrities on their website).
After dinner, we headed back to the room to relax and watch some TV before bed.
Breakfast at Tony’s at The J House
The next morning, we headed back to Tony’s at The J House to have breakfast. For breakfast, we dined inside. I was happy because it was nice to experience indoor dining room at the restaurant after dining in the garden for dinner.
My brother got the Lobster Benedict and I got the Omelette. It was a great experience just like our dinner experience.
Complimentary Breakfast and Coffee at the Coffee Bar
While we chose to dine at Tony’s at The J House, guests can grab complimentary breakfast at the Coffee Bar located off of the hotel lobby. While we didn’t grab food here, we did check it out and grab complimentary coffee before we checked out.

If you’re looking for things to do in the area during your stay, belong is everything I did in Greenwich during my trip!
Great Captain Island
Great Captain Island is a 17-acre island off of Greenwich, Connecticut that’s only accessible by ferry. I wanted to visit the island to see Great Captain Island Lighthouse. It was one of the few Connecticut lighthouses that I hadn’t seen because of the distance from my house and the need for a ferry.
I was also pleasantly surprised to find out the island has a bird sanctuary. The number of birds and differing species of birds blew me away. We saw egrets, ibises, ospreys, herons, oystercatchers, and even baby gulls. If you’re into birding, this island should definitely be on your list.
There are also small beaches on the island where you can swim. They have lifeguards, bathrooms, showers, a shaded pavilion, and picnic tables for those looking to enjoy a relaxing beach day on the island.
Greenwich Historical Society
The Greenwich Historical Society is home to the National Historic Landmark, the Busy-Holley House, which I toured during my visit. For the nation’s 250th anniversary this year, the house tours highlight the experiences of David Bush and his family during the American Revolution. The docent did a great job with telling the story of the house and the family that lived there.
After touring the house, we headed inside the galleries to check out the Fashioning America 250 Years of Greenwich Style exhibit. The exhibit highlights the evolution of American fashion within the context of a changing society and culture. I thought it was really fascinating!
Pomerance Park
This park is only a mile and a half from the hotel. I wanted to check it out because there were some stone ruins in the park. It was once the former estate of Ernest Thompson Seton, who helped establish the Boy Scouts of America.
The park also has a lot of hiking trails to explore and places to relax. There were a lot of people enjoying the park when I visited and many people walking their dogs.
Putnam Cottage
This museum wasn’t open the day that I was visiting, but I decided to stop by just to snap some photos of this historic building. The Putnam Cottage was originally built in the 17th century, but has been added on to over the years to its current size and shape.
The building was known as Knapp’s Tavern during the American Revolution. It is associated with General Israel Putnam and his escape from the British during the Revolutionary War. It also housed General Washington during the Revolutionary War.
Greenwich Avenue
Greenwich Avenue is a historic area that features upscale shopping and dining. The area is super charming and it’s a really walkable place to explore. We walked Greenwich Avenue and window shopped and admired the beautiful historic buildings.
We also checked out CFCF Coffee along Greenwich Avenue on our first day before heading to the ferry for Great Captain Island. Since we didn’t have a lot of time before the next ferry was scheduled, we got a sandwich and affogato to-go.
Bruce Museum
After Greenwich Avenue, we headed to the Bruce Museum. This is an art, science, and natural history museum in Greenwich.
My favorite part of the museum was the area with all of the fossils. There were a lot more fossils than I was expecting!
Binney Park
Our last stop with Binney Park. This park was a recommendation from the general manager at The J House Greenwich! Unfortunately, by the time we got here, it was raining and starting to storm. However, that did not deter me because I saw the most snapping turtles I have ever seen at one spot. I hopped right out of the car to look at them at take photos!
I’d love to go back and explore the park on a nicer day. But, I loved my time watching the turtles swim around in the water.
