Lighthouses You Can Stay At In The Northeastern US

Did you know that there are historic lighthouses that you can stay at in the northeastern United States? I’ll be honest, I haven’t stayed at any of these lighthouses. I do not have the money for such things. But, I have photographed them, and I’ve been inside a couple of them!

Rose Island lighthouse is located on a small island off of the coast of Newport, Rhode Island. It offers great views of the Newport Bridge and there are various accommodations on the island. There are rooms available in the lighthouse, the foghorn room, and inside the Fort Hamilton barracks. If you stay overnight, transportation will be provided by Rose Island aboard their boat Rose. They have a two-night minimum if you’re looking to stay on the island.

Bristol Ferry Lighthouse
Bristol Ferry Lighthouse is situated under the Mount Hope Bridge at the mouth of Mount Hope Bay in Bristol, Rhode Island. Guests staying here have access to the entire lighthouse and keeper’s quarters, which I think is pretty unique. There are stunning views here and easy water access. What’s nice about this spot is it’s close to downtown Bristol and fairly close to Newport.

Braddock Point Lighthouse
Braddock Point Lighthouse in Hilton, New York is a lighthouse you can stay in along the shore of Lake Ontario. The host will give a private tour of the entire property, including the tower, during check-in or an agreed upon time. During your actual stay, you won’t be able to access the tower or the basement of the house. The keeper’s house has three rooms and three bathrooms.

Race Point Light Station
If you’re looking for a unique stay in Provincetown at the tip of Cape Cod, Race Point Light Station is a great option. They have two spots you can stay at: The Keeper’s House (shown in the photo above) and the Whistle House. The Keeper’s House is set up like a bed and breakfast, while the Whistle House offers a more private stay.
If you’re staying in the Keeper’s House, transportation is provided. If you’re staying in the Whistle House, you’ll need your own four-wheel drive vehicle to get there. As someone who has made the walk out to this lighthouse (about 4 miles round trip), I promise you won’t want to walk out there with your luggage.

Nauset Lighthouse
Nauset Point Lighthouse in Eastham, Massachusetts is another Cape Cod lighthouse that you can stay at overnight. You might recognize this lighthouse from the Cape Cod chips bag. If you’re looking to stay here, you’ll rent the Keeper’s House that was used by lighthouse keepers from 1875 to 1950. The cottage features two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, a full equipped kitchen, and a dining area.

Pemaquid Point Lighthouse
If you’re looking to stay at Pemaquid Point Lighthouse in Bristol, Maine, you can actually stay in the lightkeeper’s house. It’s a second-floor apartment that features great ocean views, a fully equipped kitchen, a small dining area, a double bed, and a pull-out sofa. This spot is available to rent year-round.

Saugerties Lighthouse
Saugerties Lighthouse in Saugerties, New York is both a living museum and a Bed & Breakfast that you can stay in. It’s available to stay at Thursday through Sunday nights year-round. If you’re planning to visit this lighthouse, be sure that you check the tides. The lighthouse is only accessible during low tides. The walkway there floods over during high tides.

Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse
Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse in Barker, New York has a lighthouse cottage that you can stay in. It is a three-bedroom space with queen sized beds, a full kitchen, a living room, and a bathroom. The cottage offers great views of Lake Ontario. It is available to rent out year-round.
