Milford, Connecticut is one of those charming coastal towns that has a little bit of everything. It has scenic views, great food, and a relaxed vibe. I’ve spent time exploring its beaches, trails, and local gems, and there’s always something new to enjoy. If you’re planning a visit or just looking for a fun weekend idea, here are some of my favorite things to do in Milford.

Walnut Beach

Walnut Beach is a gorgeous beach to visit along Long Island Sound. There’s a fishing pier here as well as a boardwalk that connects you to Silver Sands State Park. It’s a great place to spend a summer day.

Walnut Beach Creamery

Walnut Beach Creamery serves up handcrafted ice cream made with fresh, seasonal ingredients. They rotate flavors often and there’s always something unique to try. And as a bonus, it’s a short walk from Walnut Beach!

Walnut Beach Coffee House

Walnut Beach Coffee House is a great place to grab a coffee, breakfast, or lunch. It’s super cute inside with plenty of seating and there’s also seating available outside. It’s a cozy spot to meet up with friends or get some work done.

Lower Lagoon

The lower lagoon in Milford is home to a beautiful, picturesque waterfall. It’s located next to Milford City Hall. There are some benches around the water to sit back and enjoy the views.

Milford Historical Society

If you’re interested in New England history, the Milford Historical Society is a great place to visit. There are three historic 18th century homes by Milford Harbor that you can tour. It’s open on the weekends from June to September and admission is always free.

Connecticut Audubon Society Coastal Center at Milford Point

Milford Point is a very popular spot for birders around the state. It is home to a variety of coastal birds such as oyster catchers, piping plovers, ospreys, snowy and great egrets, and more. In addition to being a great place to see birds, there’s also the Coastal Center building you can go inside during your visit.

Scoopy Doo’s

This seasonal ice cream spot is a local favorite. It’s located in downtown Milford close to the harbor. They serve various flavors of ice cream, gelato, sorbet, sherbet, and yogurts. They even offer dairy free ice cream!

Silver Sands State Park

Silver Sands State Park is a 297-acre coastal park along the Long Island Sound. It has tidal salt marshes, a mile‑long beach, and a beautiful boardwalk where you can enjoy the coastal views. It’s also a great spot for seeing wildlife such as birds and deer.
