Sheep Farm is a great place to go if you’re looking to take a peaceful walk in the woods. There are various small waterfalls to see in the park as well as an 18th century grist mill dam and some old foundations. It’s also a great place for birding, I once saw a Barred Owl here.

This park is great to visit if you’re into war history. The historical park is the site of the largest Revolutionary War battle in Connecticut, the 1781 British massacre of colonial militia. You can walk the grounds and there’s a museum. However, if you’re not into history, it’s still great to visit since it offers great views of the Thames River.

Paul’s Pasta is a must-visit if you go to Groton. This pasta shop offers house-made pasta that’s absolutely delicious. My go-to is the chicken Alfredo, but you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. If you sit outside, you can enjoy views of the Thames River and New London across the river.

Tour the Avery-Copp House

If you’re into historic homes, be sure to check out the Avery-Copp Museum. I actually only discovered this historic home this year. This beautiful home on Thames Street was built in 1800. The house is still filled with the family’s possessions, which is not typical for many house museums.

With a rotating selection of seasonal brews and a cozy taproom, it’s a great spot to unwind and explore unique flavors in the heart of southeastern Connecticut.

Growing up, this was the place everyone had birthday parties at. I didn’t bowl for many years, but in 2022, I wanted to give it a try again to have a fun indoor activity to do. This became my go-to bowling alley since it was close to home. There’s a bar so you can make things a little more fun while you bowl.
