Walk Around Avery Point UConn Campus

Avery Point is one of my favorite coastal spots to go in Groton. This college campus has beautiful coastal views and even a beautiful Connecticut lighthouse. It’s one of my favorite spots to watch the sunset in southeastern Connecticut.
Walk at Bluff Point State Park

Bluff Point State Park is a coastal park that offers miles of walking trails. Whether you’re looking for coastal views or a walk through the woods, this park has got it. There are also picnic tables and a boat launch at the park.
Go for a Hike at Sheep Farm

Sheep Farm is a great place to go if you’re looking to take a peaceful walk in the woods. There are various small waterfalls to see in the park as well as an 18th century grist mill dam and some old foundations. It’s also a great place for birding, I once saw a Barred Owl here.
Learn About History and Take in the Views at Fort Griswold

This park is great to visit if you’re into war history. The historical park is the site of the largest Revolutionary War battle in Connecticut, the 1781 British massacre of colonial militia. You can walk the grounds and there’s a museum. However, if you’re not into history, it’s still great to visit since it offers great views of the Thames River.
Grab a Bite to Eat at Paul’s Pasta

Paul’s Pasta is a must-visit if you go to Groton. This pasta shop offers house-made pasta that’s absolutely delicious. My go-to is the chicken Alfredo, but you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. If you sit outside, you can enjoy views of the Thames River and New London across the river.
Tour the Avery-Copp House

If you’re into historic homes, be sure to check out the Avery-Copp Museum. I actually only discovered this historic home this year. This beautiful home on Thames Street was built in 1800. The house is still filled with the family’s possessions, which is not typical for many house museums.
Grab A Drink At Outer Light brewing

Outer Light Brewing Company is known for its wide variety of craft beers, ranging from hoppy IPAs to rich stouts. The brewery prides itself on using quality ingredients and offering a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere for both locals and visitors. With a rotating selection of seasonal brews and a cozy taproom, it’s a great spot to unwind and explore unique flavors in the heart of southeastern Connecticut.
Go Bowling at the Groton Bowling Center

Growing up, this was the place everyone had birthday parties at. I didn’t bowl for many years, but in 2022, I wanted to give it a try again to have a fun indoor activity to do. This became my go-to bowling alley since it was close to home. There’s a bar so you can make things a little more fun while you bowl.
Enjoy Views At Main Street Dock and Beach

Enjoy some coastal views in the village of Noank, which is located in Groton, Connecticut. Right next to this small waterfront park is the Noank Historical Society, which has two historic buildings next to the park. It’s a beautiful spot that’s full of history.
