Gardner Lake

Gardner Lake is a large lake to visit in southeastern Connecticut. It can be accessed from Salem or Bozrah. If you’re looking to swim, you can go to the private beach in Bozrah or the public state beach in Salem. If you’re looking for a hike to the lake’s shore, check out Hopemead State Park in Bozrah.

Rogers Lake

Rogers Lake is in Old Lyme. If you’re looking to access a beach, check out Hains Park. If you have a boat, paddleboard, or kayak, you can access the water at the state boat launch. It’s a great spot for fishing for bass and trout.

Lake Pocotopaug

Lake Pocotopaug in East Hampton is one of the largest inland bodies of water in Connecticut. This is a popular lake for boating and if you’re just looking to enjoy the views, there’s a walking path along much of the lake. You can also dine at Lakeside Bar & Grill and enjoy lake views. For a unique experience, you can stay in a cabin on one of the islands on the lake that are only accessible by boat.

Candlewood Lake is the largest lake in Connecticut and is located in western Fairfield and Litchfield counties. It’s not a natural lake as it was humanmade. It is a popular spot for boating, swimming, fishing, and other outdoor activities. The lake is surrounded by small towns and offers beautiful views, especially during the summer. And a not-so-fun fact: The remnants of a small 1920s farming village named Jerusalem sit under the lake.

Quaddick Lake in Thompson, Connecticut is a beautiful lake to visit year-round. The park features a small beach to swim at in the summer. There’s also a boat launch if you’re looking to enjoy a day out on the water.

West Thompson Lake is a reservoir in northeastern Connecticut managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It is used for flood control and offers opportunities for camping, fishing, boating, disc golf, and hiking along its shoreline. The area is surrounded by forests and is known for its calm, scenic views.
